Connecting, Disconnecting, and Troubleshooting Bluetooth Connections

Basics For Connecting Bluetooth Devices

Mighty works with wired and Bluetooth audio accessories. Follow these steps to pair Mighty with Bluetooth headphones or a speaker for the first time. Once Mighty is paired with your Bluetooth accessory, you will not need to re-pair them.

  1. Make sure the Bluetooth accessory you are trying to pair is not already actively connected to another device (phone, watch, tablet, computer, MP3 player, etc).

  2. Make sure your Mighty is powered on and connected to the app from within the “Connections” section (chain link in lower left) of the Mighty app.

  3. Put the Bluetooth accessory in pairing mode and swipe down on the screen from within the “Connections” section (chain link in lower left) of the Mighty app.

  4. When the Bluetooth accessory is found, you will see a + next to the accessory name. Tap the + and the accessory will connect to your Mighty.

Reconnecting to Bluetooth

Once Mighty is paired with your Bluetooth device it will automatically reconnect with your Mighty for future uses. If you are having issues with Mighty automatically reconnecting to your Bluetooth device, checkout these tips

Order Matters: Power on Bluetooth Device 1st, Mighty 2nd - Bluetooth devices and connections are notoriously fickle. To make sure you have the best reconnection experience, turn on the Bluetooth device 1st. Wait for it to fully power up and be waiting for a connection, then turn your Mighty on. You should hear the audible chime or voice over and/or see the connection light on your Bluetooth device signaling that your Mighty and Bluetooth device are connected.

Disconnect Bluetooth Device From Other Players (phone, watch, tablet, computer, car): If your Bluetooth device is going in and out or randomly breaks it’s connection with your Mighty, it is most likely because that Bluetooth device is trying to connect with something else - phone, watch, computer, car, etc. To prevent this from happening, you can “forget” or “disconnect” the Bluetooth device from everything except your Mighty.

Troubleshooting Bluetooth Connections

There are thousands of different earbuds, headphones, and speakers that have Bluetooth connectivity. We are always improving our Bluetooth connectivity in order to allow you to connect with as many Bluetooth devices as possible. If you have followed the Bluetooth connection steps and are experiencing issues while connecting, here are some troubleshooting tips.

Mighty Can’t Find My Bluetooth Device

Pairing Mode
 - Make sure your Bluetooth device is in pairing mode. Each Bluetooth accessory should have a pairing mode button or switch. Most Bluetooth devices have an audible chime, voice over, and/or a blinking light to show you they are in pairing mode. If your Bluetooth device is not in pairing mode, your Mighty will not be able to discover the device and pair with it.

Swipe Down - While in pairing mode on your Bluetooth device, you should navigate to the “Connections” section (chain link in lower left) of the Mighty app. When you’re Bluetooth device is discovered by Mighty, it will pop up on the Bluetooth connections screen. If it’s not popping up, you can pull down on the connections screen in the app to force Mighty to look for Bluetooth devices.

Factory Reset Bluetooth Device - Every Bluetooth device should have the ability to do a Factory Reset. Performing this factory reset will get rid of pre existing connections and any oddities that might be preventing it from connecting properly. If you don’t know how to do a factory reset on your Bluetooth device, do an online search for the brand and product name along with “factory reset”, and you should find instructions. Follow our main Bluetooth connection steps after the device has been factory reset.

Mighty Disconnects From Bluetooth

Keep Mighty Close to Bluetooth Device - The range of the Bluetooth connection depends on multiple factors. If you are getting crackly sound while listening or having Bluetooth drops, try moving Mighty closer to the Bluetooth device.

Electronic Signals and Microwaves - Bluetooth signals are impacted by electronic signals and things like microwaves. If you are experiencing crackly sound while listening or having frequent Bluetooth drops, try moving around to see if they happen in certain locations.

Bluetooth Device Tips/Hacks

Bluetooth devices can vary in how they connect and function. Even once they are connected, some of their playback methods can vary from mono to stereo. Here are some tips and hacks that might help you if you have a device that is being tricky.

Be Patient and Look/Listen For Connection Queues - Bluetooth devices can take their time connecting (1-30 seconds). If you have already paired your Bluetooth device with Mighty but are reconnecting, power up your Bluetooth device 1st and then power up your Mighty (order matters). You should hear the paired chime or see the paired light on your Bluetooth device meaning you are connected and good to press play on your Mighty.

Take it Slow - Bluetooth devices can be slow in responding. Rather than pressing track forward/back rapidly or the playlist button rapidly, give Mighty and your Bluetooth device a chance to get up to speed. Waiting a second in between button presses will help your Mighty and your Bluetooth device stay in sync. This is especially important for the 1st 30 seconds or so each time they connect. Let the connection build stability and then start sending commands from your Mighty.

Keep Wired Headphones/Earbuds or 3.5mm Aux Cord Handy - If your Bluetooth device is giving you trouble, you can always plug in a 3.5 mm Audio Aux Cable and use your Mighty without any issue. Many Bluetooth devices (especially speakers) have an audio-in option, and many of them come with a cord because they know that Bluetooth connections can be wonky. If you need a cord for your speaker, any “Aux Audio Cable” should work.

Start Wired, Jump to Bluetooth - Mighty experiences playback issues with all voiceover related commands (playlist change, song/artist read out) from some of the less expensive Bluetooth devices with mono audio output. In these cases, the Bluetooth device can connect to Mighty, but you can’t jump from playlist to playlist while connected to the speaker. In those cases, you can find the right playlist by listening via a wired connection, then pause or remove the wired connection, and finally power up your previously paired Bluetooth device. The Mighty will reconnect with your Bluetooth device, and you will be on the playlist you want.

Issues With Small Bluetooth Earbuds

Small and inexpensive earbuds are pretty great for running and working out. Unfortunately, size and cost are both factors that can impact the antenna size in your earbuds. The smaller and lower quality the antenna, the more interruption you may have. If you are running and working out with small Bluetooth earbuds and experiencing choppy or interrupted playback, we have these tips for you:

Get Mighty Closer to Earbuds - Most people default to a waistband or hip pocket for their Mighty. If you are experiencing interrupted playback as described above, try moving Mighty closer to your earbuds. Clipping on a backpack, shirt collar, hat, or armband are all good options. By moving Mighty closer to the earbuds, the Bluetooth connection should be more reliable and your playback should be smoother.

Change Which Side Mighty is Clipped to - As in the above scenario, the objective is to get Mighty closer to the antenna in your earbuds. In many instances, your earbuds would have a primary side (left or right). That primary side had the stronger antenna and main controls (power, volume, etc). To optimize Bluetooth connectivity, try to put Mighty on the same side as your primary earbud.

The Same Earbuds Work On My Phone - It takes two antennas to tango. The bigger and stronger the antennas, the longer the range and the more stable the connection will be. The Bluetooth antenna in a phone and a computer is much bigger and stronger than the antenna in a small device like Mighty. Likewise, the antenna in a speaker, and headphone is way, way bigger than the antenna in a small earbuds. With two small antennas creating the Bluetooth connection, the range becomes shorter. Keeping the earbuds and Mighty close together helps create a reliable connection.
